Today the Islamic (Hijri) date in Pakistan is 26 Jumadi ul Awal 1448. In Urdu this is often called chand ki tareekh or aaj ki Islami tareekh. After sunset (Maghrib) today the Islamic date becomes 27 Jumadi ul Awal, because in the Islamic calendar a new day starts at sunset.
Why the date can be one day different
Every Islamic month begins when the new crescent moon is seen. In Pakistan the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announces the sighting, so the first of a month, and therefore Ramazan, Eid and Muharram, can be one day later (or earlier) than in Saudi Arabia. The date above follows the moon sighting in Pakistan as closely as we can; at the start of a new month please confirm with the committee's announcement.
