How the gold rate is worked out

Gold is traded worldwide in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 grams). We convert that price to Pakistani rupees and then to the units used in Pakistan: 1 tola = 11.6638 grams, 10 grams and 1 gram. 22, 21 and 18 karat prices follow from their gold content (22/24, 21/24 and 18/24 of pure gold).

Gold rate in your city

The gold rate is almost the same all over Pakistan – Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Faisalabad and Multan – because the sarafa associations announce one rate each day; small differences between cities are possible. What really changes from shop to shop is the making charge.
